Why the family ice cream date is important and how to make it memorable
Hot days sprinkled with laughter and dripping ice cream cones, that’s what summers are made of. Each day seems so long, but the months fly by in a flash and I don’t want to miss a moment. So our family started a new family traditions for the summers. With just nine short weeks between the end of school and the start of a new year, we’re implementing “Flavorful Fridays” (not to mention that July is National Ice Cream Month and the bulk of summer vacation).
At the end of each week, we recap the highlights of what happened and share over a small bowl of a new ice cream flavor.
We not only want to focus on the good that has happened to the family in the week, but focus on how important it is to do good in relation to those around us.
Because we’re pretty strict on eating healthy foods in our family, we gathered 9 delicious, creamy ice cream flavors from Swell, The Next Wave of Ice Cream. I feel better about serving them ice cream without artificial colors or genetically modified ingredients. So we’ve learned to love ending a Friday family with a sweet treat that’s a better-for-the-kids variety. (And it fills them up with protein so they’re not begging for more food right after eating!)
Our ice cream date is about focusing on super sweet memories over a treat that we won’t regret later!

Family Ice Cream Date Questions

Family Ice Cream Date Activity
Each child gets to choose the main memory, experience or person they “ice cream for” and write it down as a part of the saying “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.” Basically as a way to record the biggest highlight from the week and build their summer ice cream cone.
And then we record it on their ice cream tower!
At the end of the summer, we’ll go through the memories and each kiddo will get to tell us both what their favorite memory was and their favorite ice cream flavor is (So far, Dark Chocolate Toffee is winning).
