An easy shark tooth snack to sink your teeth into

Between a love for Octonauts, Nemo, and Finding Dory, sharks have been a subject of fascination in our home for about a year now. But when my daughter’s 3rd birthday party rolled around I was at a loss for what would be great ocean-themed finger foods. But our pint-sized guests audibly oooo-ed and awwww-ed over the simplest snack of all, the shark tooth snack.

Tasty, lick your lips and fingers good, these shark teeth also became a fun game for kids to pretend to be sharks!

A variation on a classic kids’ treat and snack, our shark teeth are ultimately puppy chow made from Bugles. However, I did find they were a little harder to not break than the average rice cereal and because of their shape, they needed a different amount of ingredients!

What you need to make a bowl of shark teeth puppy chow

  • Half a bag of Bugles chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (or sun butter for those with a peanut allergy)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (melted)
  • Approximately 1-2 cups of powdered sugar

The secret to making the perfect shark tooth snack for your party

To make this endeavor as mess free and clean-up free as possible, you’re going to make it in a single gallon ziplock bag. Make sure you grab a freezer bag because it can hold up to the movement better and you can more easily manipulate where peanut butter and chocolate wind up. You might also need a spatula, but between that and a single pot, you’re dish free.

Melt a cup of chocolate chips on low heat. Once you have it on the burner, add half a bag of original, regular size Bugles to your gallon bag. It will fill it about 75% of the way. Add 1 cup of peanut butter (no sugar added) and close the bag.

Shake, move, twist, and mooooshhhhh the peanut butter to cover the rice chips.

Stop on occasion to stir your chocolate in order to make sure it doesn’t burn. In fact, this is a good reason to not use a microwave. It would heat it too fast and typically burns.

In about 5 minutes or less, your chocolate will be smooth and your Bugles will be covered in peanut butter. At that time, add the chocolate to the bag and continue to squish and mix.

Finally add in your powdered sugar. While it seems like a sloppy mess, it actually turns out pretty well.

Serve up the way you or your kids see fit to enjoy shark week, Octonauts, or Finding Dory.
