So I began experimenting using few ingredients and making small pies and came up with a great base-line ratio that has worked when I multiply it. So the base ratio is for 6 mini apple pies. Obviously to make a full dozen, you need to double it, but if you’re making a full size apple pie, you also need to double it.

1 regular to large size apple (I prefer gala)

2 Tablespoons butter

3 Teaspoons cinnamon

1/4 cup sugar

Pre-made pie dough – if I am not making my own, I prefer Immaculate brand

A dash of nutmeg (optional)

Separate the butter into two halves. Melt one half and set one half aside. Then chop and cube your apple. I use a half teaspoon to core it and then just quickly chop it up. After that, I out it all in a bowl and make sure the apples are completely covered in sugar and spice mixture.

How to make Mini Apple Pies

Take your favorite pie dough recipe or buy one that’s made for you and roll it out to approximately 1/4 inch. Use a glass that is roughly the same diameter as the muffin tin you are wanting to use. Then cut circles (or have your child cut the dough) to lay inside the muffin tin.

We use our learning tower not only as a sort of step stool, but also as a lower counter!

Use a half cup scoop to dish in the apple pie mixture. Take the other half of the butter and slice it into six pieces, laying each one on top of each of your mini pies and then top with another pie dough circle. Gently press decorative slits into the top and bake at 425° F for 15-18 minutes or until golden.

Enjoy as you would a regular apple pie. We personally love to eat them with a dollop of cream cheese! Also, as a side note, if you’re making a full pie, distribute the pieces o butter evenly on top of the pie. You might also need to let it bake for a few extra minutes.
