How to make a “We 3 Kings” keepsake ornament for grandparents afar

Often times I find myself humming We 3 Kings. I have no idea why. It’s not even my favorite Christmas song. But this season I thought it would be cute to do ornament handprint art, making my kids’ fingers the crowns of the kings.

And it would be perfect because we have 3 kids with the perfect size hands to fit on a large clear ornament.

The reason this is the perfect keepsake gift to send to long distance family and grandparents is because in the song is talks about the 3 kings traversing from afar. So it’s cute to write a few Merry Christmas notes to roll up and tuck inside.

Start by tracing each child’s hand. If they’re too little or wiggly, use an ink pad.

The reason to do this instead of directly tracing it onto the ornament is because you only have to do it once, it’s a flat surface, and you can reposition as needed.

Then cut them out and tape them on the ornament.

I like tracing the crown from the knuckles up and the face below that. I used a bronze sharpie because it actually showed up much better than the gold. Then after filling the inside with paper, it made the images show up that much more!

Pop the top off and put in your messages.

Make sure that you put the date either on the strips of paper and/or on the actual ornament so that over the years you can look at handwriting and what each one says.
