Fix Broken Chalk – Turn it into Paint
Broken chalk. Pieces of Broken chalk everywhere. That’s what I see when I look at my front porch and patio. My daughter loves to just snap it in half and she is notorious for pressing too hard when she is playing with it. This means I have tons of chalk that she doesn’t want to play with anymore because it’s broken into tiny or really small pieces. This meant finding a way to fix broken chalk or find a solution so it wasn’t all wasted.
How to make Chalk Paint from Broken Pieces
1. Collect the chalk pieces and put them in some sort of container to crush. Ideally, this would be a mortar and pestle arrangement, but not completely necessary. We used a small pan and a spoon.
2. Smash the pieces of chalk into dust as much as possible. Add just a little warm water if necessary.
3. Scoop 1 tablespoon of the chalk dust/mixture into each muffin tin spot.
4. Add food coloring to your liking.
5. Fill each muffin tin spot half way up with warm water and mix it together.
6. PAINT!
Please note that you may still have chunks. The only way to get this perfectly smooth is to either use a food processors and/or use boiling water. However, for our sake, I wanted my daughter to be a part of the process. Since she loves to break chalk so much, this gave her an outlet to do so.
