April 19, 1775

Somewhere in Massachusetts, a shot rang out. Nobody agrees on exactly who fired it or why. What they agree on is what happened next: the world changed.

That is what New England celebrates every year on Patriot's Day, the third Monday of April. The Boston Marathon runs the same day. The battle sites are open. If you live here, you feel it. If you do not, this novel is the next best thing.

From a silversmith's shop
to the shot heard round the world.

On April 19, 1775, a shot rang out at Lexington and Concord that became known as the shot heard round the world. What followed was not inevitable. It was chosen, by ordinary people who decided something was worth dying for. Johnny Tremain is the novel that puts students inside that decision: not watching it from a safe distance, but standing in the street when everything changed.

But reading the novel is not the same as understanding it. And understanding it is not the same as living inside it deeply enough to argue about it, build from it, and carry it forward.

This bundle gives you both: the immersive project-based study that makes the Revolution tangible, and the structured comprehension guide that confirms your students actually understood what they read. Depth and accountability, together, for one complete unit.

"Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth."
George Washington

About the Author

These resources come from a real classroom.

Kara Carrero taught College-Prep history at the high school level, holds a secondary English certification, and coached competitive speech and debate. In every room she taught, the same problem showed up: students who could narrate events could not argue about them.

She received a Da Vinci Institute award for creative teaching strategies and now homeschools six children on a working farm in New England. The resources she builds through EGP Media and Press bring the same rigor she taught in the classroom to families and co-ops who want depth without needing a teaching degree to deliver it.
